She Once Struggled With Body Image and Felt “Ugly” — Now a Star at 32 Facing Online Mockery For Her Teeth

Aimee Lou Wood grew up in Stockport, England, facing challenges with shyness, anxiety, bullying, low self-confidence, and struggles with body image. She later learned that many of her difficulties were linked to ADHD and possible autistic traits, which helped her better understand her experiences.

As a teenager, she found confidence through drama classes, where acting became a creative outlet and a way to overcome social anxiety. She later trained at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), one of the UK’s leading acting schools.

Her breakthrough came when she was cast as Aimee Gibbs in the hit Netflix series Sex Education, which brought her international recognition. Despite insecurities about her appearance and industry expectations, she gained success by embracing authenticity rather than trying to fit traditional beauty standards.

Today, Wood is known not only for her acting talent but also for her openness about mental health, neurodiversity, self-acceptance, and body image. Her story is one of resilience, personal growth, and learning to turn early struggles into strengths while building a successful acting career.
