When my husband Jack and I moved into a quiet suburban neighborhood for a temporary work assignment, we hoped for a peaceful stay.<\/p>\n
At first, everything seemed perfect.<\/p>\n
A few days after we arrived, our neighbor Lindsey welcomed us with a plate of cookies and a friendly smile. But the conversation quickly took an unexpected turn.<\/p>\n
She warned us about what she described as the neighborhood’s most important rule: only one vehicle was allowed in each driveway.<\/p>\n

Later that day, I reported the incident through the appropriate channels.<\/p>\n
The next morning, a federal agent arrived at Lindsey’s front door.<\/p>\n
From our window, we watched as the conversation unfolded.<\/p>\n
The agent explained that her actions had interfered with an active government assignment and caused thousands of dollars in damages and delays.<\/p>\n
The confident neighbor who had eagerly enforced the rules suddenly seemed far less certain.<\/p>\n
The warning was serious, and the message was clear.<\/p>\n
Since that day, Lindsey has largely kept to herself. Her once-busy front yard has grown noticeably quieter, and the tension that briefly gripped the neighborhood quickly faded.<\/p>\n
As for Jack and me, we continued our work and moved on.<\/p>\n
